The "Mazda Rx-7" is a sports automobile from Mazda using a rotary engine.
The car is a 2-seater with engine in the front and rear wheel drive configuration. It was produced between 1979 and 1999, in three distinct generations of design.
"Mk 1 -" A small light sports car with aerodynamic styling. many examples of this car are still on the road, and still look modern.
"Mk 2 -" A larger more powerful car, the 80's version was meant to challenge Porsches and the Nissan Z. The latest editions had highly-tuned turbo engines.
"Mk 3 -" This version actually caught Porsches... and even Ferraris. Much of the Miata's thinking was poured into this design, incorporating features such as a light unibody with layered reinforcements, and a drivetrain frame conencting the transmission to the rear differential. The result was a lightweight, extremely responsive car.
Competitors have been Porsche 924, Porsche 928, Nissan Z-cars, Toyota Supra, etc.
